Massage Therapy

Massage has been enjoyed for thousands of years. Massage therapists are experts in working with soft tissues to relieve pain and improve relaxation of muscles. They are trained in a number of different techniques to achieve maximum results. Within the centre the massage therapists can offer remedial, sports, and relaxation massage depending on your individual needs.

Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is a gentle, relaxing full-body massage technique that uses smooth, flowing strokes and circular movements on the top layer of muscles. It focuses on the soft tissues to relieve tension and improve circulation. Swedish massage helps you relax, improves blood flow, and eases tension in your muscles. It’s a good choice if you’re new to massage or just want to unwind and feel better overall.

Sports Massage
Sports Massage is not just for athletes. Anyone can benefit from sports massage. Sports massage is a specialised form of massage therapy focused on treating and preventing injuries, improving performance, and aiding recovery in physically active individuals. It targets specific muscle groups used during exercise and often includes techniques like deep tissue work, stretching, and joint mobilisation. Sports massage can help to reduce muscle tension, increase flexibility, enhance circulation, and speed up recovery.

Deep Tissue Massage
This is a type of massage therapy that targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissues. It uses slow firm pressure and deep strokes to target tight and sore areas, especially those caused by stress, overuse or injury. Deep tissue massage is more intense than a regular massage and can sometimes feel a bit uncomfortable, but its effective for long term muscle tension and recovery.

Pregnancy Massage – 12 weeks plus
Pregnancy Massage is a gentle, relaxing type of massage therapy designed specifically for pregnant women who are over 12 weeks pregnant. It’s tailored to the needs and changes in a pregnant body and is usually done with the person lying on their side or using special cushions for comfort and safety. Pregnancy massage helps reduce stress, ease muscle aches (especially in the back, hips, and legs), reduce swelling, and promote better sleep. It’s safe when done by a trained therapist and can make pregnancy more comfortable and even positively impact the baby’s development.
The centre uses mainly prescriptive massage as opposed to beauty therapy massage to work alongside regular Chiropractic or Osteomyology care. This helps us to achieve quicker and more long-lasting results by improving circulation to allow your body to repair and renew and work on minimising muscle memory for those with more chronic issues. This ensures optimal results allowing the body to function at optimal levels.
Chiropractors and Osteomyologists work on the deep structure of the body including the spine and nervous system. Massage therapists work on the muscles nearer the surface to ensure all aspects of the body come into alignment and are well balanced. Working on the muscular system aids the corrections being made to the spinal system. Without massage, when the spinal corrections are made, tight muscles may pull on the spinal system returning it back to its dysfunctional position again quickly meaning that the adjustments don’t hold in place so well.
Massage has been found to help with many different conditions including anxiety, digestive disorders, sports injuries, fibromyalgia, stress, headaches, and soft tissue injuries to name just a few. In our centre, your Chiropractor or Osteomyologist will suggest massage therapy when they feel the time is right within your personalised care journey, however if you wish to find out more about it, then ask your practitioner on your next visit and they will be happy to discuss it with you.
